The Eye Test

I am generally someone who doesn’t pay too much attention to stats (although given my performance in FPL last season perhaps I should) but what I’m going to try and do with this section of the website is to combine my own ‘Eye Test’ with some stats to look at interesting and potential picks for us all moving forward.

So without further ado, here are five players who passed my ‘Eye Test’ during Gameweek 3.

Jimenez:

Jimenez and his Wolves colleagues might not have hit the net yet this season but that’s not going to continue for long given their incredible attacking stats.

The Mexican in particular, along with Traore, has looked incredibly promising, especially in his last match against Manchester United. Not only did he create 3 chances for team-mates but he also had 4 shots himself too.

Given he’s playing for a very attacking side and one that is creating an awful lot of chances, Jimenez is sure to start hitting the net very soon and is one I’m pleased to have held on to.

Gallagher:

The on-loan Chelsea youngster impressed heavily in Crystal Palace’s 2-2 draw with West Ham in Gameweek 3.

Aside from scoring two goals, the Englishman had an Expected Goals on Target (xGOT) of 1.67 and an Expected Goals (xG) of 0.93. He created 1 other chance for team-mates and was successful with 3 of his five attempted crosses too.

Having played well against Brentford in Gameweek 2 too, he’s certainly passed the eye test over the last couple of weeks and looks set to be an interesting differential in weeks to come.

Allan:

One of the most surprising performances to come out of Gameweek 3 was that of Everton’s Brazilian midfielder, Allan.

Known for being a very effective defensive midfielder, the 30-year-old shone in an attacking sense against Brighton, grabbing one assist and creating 4 chances for his team-mates. He also had 3 key passes too.

Given his price in FPL only being 4.5m, he could be a fantastic option for a cheap 5th midfielder if he continues this good form. Wildcarding? It might be worth considering him!

Torres:

As painful as it was to watch the match given that I’m an Arsenal fan, albeit a realistic one, I can’t deny that Ferrari Torres was absolutely exceptional in City’s 5-0 win.

The Spaniard scored two goals, had 4 shots and created 2 chances for his team-mates too. I know that Arsenal looked awful but you can only beat the side in front of you and he played brilliantly. He backed up his points haul in stats too, with an Expected Goals On Target (xGOT) of 1.33.

Given that he’s playing superbly and is starting more games than we all expected, he’s a great option moving forward, especially if the rumours about Pep training him as a striker are true.

Elyounoussi:

This certainly isn’t a name I expected to be writing about at any point this season but it has to be said that the Norwegian shone against Newcastle in Gameweek 3.

The 27-year-old scored one goal, had 3 shots and created 2 chances for team-mates. He had an xGOT of 1.62 and an xG of 1.60 too. He could have had more goals too, given that he missed one big chance.

At just 5.5m, he could be a bargain if he continues to perform (and start) in coming weeks. Certainly one to watch.
